We're sailing off into another war that's (at best) going to flush away a generation's worth of wealth (again!) that nobody wants and people fail to grasp what these shame sheds mean for our standard of living. The richest fing country on earth, folks.

It seems like a good thing, but do these shelters lack heat, water, and electricity? How long can anybody stay in one of the shelters? I'd be interested in more reporting on this program.

Thanks! I missed the part about the refrigerator and the community bath house, so yes, there's electricity in each unit and running water on the campus.

How did they do it so cheaply? $56,000 per unit is 10x less than Los Angeles spent for similar projects. Is it low Land cost? Labor costs? I’m impressed they got approval from neighbors. Usually it’s NIMBY.

Not perfect, but a step in a positive direction. With a sheltered address the unhoused gain more than a warm place, they hopefully gain a footing back toward employment and a better living situation.
