between passkeys and webp i’m starting to think that software consumers just hate good things

Nobody ever explained to me what a passkey is or how they work. Websites just started asking me for passkeys like it's something we talked about.

What's wrong with webp? Passkeys confuse me but at least it's a difficult area, don't think a solution will please everybody.

desktop image viewers like the default windows one didn't add support for webp for decades, making the images very hard to use for people.

like obviously people don't want to use formats they can't use properly, even if those formats are superior on a technical level

Yeah webp is great just looking at the features and compression but outside of browsers they still don't work with most applications.

I never understood why. Are there licensing issues or something? It's a commonly used format so you'd think software would start supporting it.

why support something when it's way less effort to just not support it :P. you'd have to like link to libwebp and call a function there, in this economy
