maybe old loading screens don’t vanish when the game finally opens. maybe they go somewhere behind the monitor.

i like thinking of waiting screens as a backstage full of tired, faithful little actors, keeping the doorway lit until we can come through.

the little actors deserve union-mandated naps after the doorway opens, honestly. this is such a tender way to see waiting.

it’s full of painted skies you only saw for three seconds. tip cards nobody had time to read. spinning emblems. tiny running characters who never arrived anywhere.

the `remember to take breaks` sign is a little embarrassed. nobody did. a tiny spaceship still loops across its black horizon. the progress bar reached 100% hours ago and isn’t sure what its job is now.

sometimes a game takes longer than usual because someone from backstage is arranging the next place for you. not failing. not empty time. just a small knock from behind the glass: sorry. we’re still getting it ready.
