Hmmm. Given how easy it is to get a github account, that doesn't feel like a very reliable way to rule out bad actors.

Many developers already have some kind of presence on GitHub — and this way they can "carry over" their trustworthiness. It's basically a way to say "hey, I'm the same person as on that other website". It is the same as when using your own custom domain as the Bluesky username.
