Now a two-step method for 3,3-diaryloxetane synthesis from 3-oxetanone is reported. (Hetero)aryl lithium addition and alkoxide trapping form stable oxetanyl tetrafluoropyridyl ethers, which can then be cross-coupled with (hetero)aryl boronates using Ni catalysis, affording 3,3-diaryloxetanes.
