One Semitic root for "read, recite" gave three faiths a word for scripture. Arabic qaraʾa → Qurʾān "the Recitation" Hebrew qārāʾ → Miqrāʾ "Scripture" Aramaic qərā "call, read" Ge'ez qarʾa "call, cry out, read" The Qurʾān and the Miqra are the same verb in sister languages.
