A new McKinsey report projects automation could create 5 million net new US jobs by 2035. But 11 million workers may have to switch careers entirely. That is 770,000 career changes a year. Not everyone has an easy path. I wrote about it on #Substack. pithycyborg.substack.com/p/ai-sends-f...

Useful contrast with what companies actually announce: 126k+ job cuts since Apr 2023 that companies linked to AI in their own memos, filings or calls (Oracle, Block, Salesforce, Intuit). Heavily concentrated in tech, support and back-office roles, not spread across the economy.

Dear Revolutio, Just wanted to say thank you so much for interacting with my newsletter! :) I was also surprised to see that Kroger announced 3,000 corporate layoffs just last week. Who is next? 👀 Hope you have a lovely day, Revolutio. Your nerdy friend, Mike D

Thanks, Mike! Enjoyed your McKinsey piece. On who's next: we only count cuts where the company itself ties them to AI in memos, filings or calls, and most still don't name it outright. So the honest answer is we'll know when they say so. Will keep tracking.
