Also formulaic is NOT necessarily easy to write! "Formulaic" covers mysteries & comics & all kinds of movies & shows. It is, in fact, HARD to write something to a strict formula that's been done hundreds of times before. To sell people a new version of something they already have & love? HARD.

TOTALLY. Friends are always telling me I should get into the Christmas romance movie writing scene, because it seems to provide endless work, and I have to tell them that that is a COMPLETELY different skill set than what I have & I have no idea how to write that. It looks very hard!

Does she think that there are clothes made entirely by machines or Like “extremely low cost labor” is not the same as a machine and I think that’s pertinent to the AI convo given that they’re passing off extremely low cost labor as “AI”

I still remember when some Serious Intellectuals on here argued with their full chest that you can't actually plagiarize romance because it's so formulaic it's all the same. And a bunch of Serious People everyone respects were like "wow amazing points being made, so true" lol

Formulaic, without further context, isn’t even a criticism. The majority of fiction follows certain frameworks, and creators disregard those frameworks at their own peril. I imagine JCO knows this, but the AI comment does not fill me with confidence.
