I saw elsewhere that it got good ratings but apparently it was amongst middle aged women and we are not a desirable demographic for Amazon

it was said pretty explicitly in the linked article. and it is less that middle aged women are not a desirable demographic, and it's that their data has made them feel that the people attracted to middle aged women shows probably already have prime accounts so they're not gonna bring in new subs.

so it's a different kind of insulting that is also gendered, but they will have the exact data to back up what % of folks watched that show already had accounts. whether a good TV model is "if this appeals heavily to our existing customers it is worthless" is a great question.
