I have been dodging the thread with the "mild ADHD" guy running the goal posts all over the globe, but I just stumbled across this one and I am begging someone to tell me where we sign up for the cleaners & personal carers that apparently comes automatically with a diagnosis 😭

if there's one thing we know people love to do, it's give people with ADHD too much support automatically. lolol

Having to manage other people (like explaining what needs to be done) can be a bigger challenge than the help itself might mitigate. I find it much easier to make myself do something (although "easier" does a lot of heavy lifting here) than explaining to someone else what needs to be done.

No. Just that support for one person is entirely different from someone else. Support must be tailored to individual needs. Use of medication is much the same. Not everyone benefits. It can take time to find the right one. But nobody who needs it should be denied.

I have got "actually couldn't hold down a grown-up office job" level ADHD. it's pretty severe. it impacts my life in various ways for which I have basically never received support. and I will fucking clothesline anyone who tries to gatekeep care & support to people they think are less impacted

Yeap! There’s a clear before and after ADHD meds in my life. I truly wondered why I couldn’t do tasks my colleagues had no trouble with (among a huge list of other life items to get done).

man, I have cleaners but I fucking have to pay them my own damn self and I count myself wildly fortunate that I CAN pay for them, genuinely where the fuck does this person think this kind of support for people w/ ADHD is just happening automatically and CAN I MOVE THERE.

(we all know it isn’t happening anywhere, but even if it actually were I couldn’t move there! because no country with remotely decent healthcare will let my crip adhd ass immigrate! ha ha ha god i love the world we live in.)

I got arrested because of my ADHD inability to get my lawn mowed. I've had to pay a guy to mow my lawn for 20 years now to prevent it happening again. Even after being diagnosed 5 years ago.

because let's be so fucking for real right now: 1) you can't appease the people who don't want ADHD to exist by sacrificing the "functional" ones who have managed to string together coping mechanisms that will burn them out by 50 2) stigmatizing support will make it harder for all of us

I was diagnosed in the 90s and they gave me meds thst did nothing but make me very prone to being motion sick and then all the actual problems I was having at school and work for the rest of my life were blamed on either my other traumas or me being lazy for 3 decades.

as someone with adhd who relied on anxiety to get through high school until that system broke down catrosphically in college, to this day I still don’t have a bachelor’s and have not ever truly recovered fron burnout: the “functioning” ones are usually a few bad gos from total system collapse.

My burnout started about 4 yrs ago. I'm still in burnout. Not sure it'll ever get better. Course, I still automatically mask, and take on more than I should. So...burnout gonna keep burning out.

I failed out of 4 (i think) and took 4 years to finish my associates LMao. Thankfully I decided to do a coding bootcamp right during the tech hiring boom and got into my industry without a 4 year degree. Probably should have just gone into the trades but it was never on my radar.

Ditto here, I'm still trying to work it out. I never reallly had a job but once I discovered that I was quite good at starting entire companies to employ me, so long as others did the management.
