Currently, there's an open loop for slop generation. Humans are the predominant navigators of slop space, using engagement / payouts as a heading. What happens when TikTok et. al. close the loop on slop generation?

I haven't said it like this before I don't think, but I do believe it. Slop peddling is a human failure. It's bad ends from bad means, usually through inattention (underspecification -> hallucination), incuriosity (inability to discern good output from bad before releasing it), or malice.

Short form content platforms are well positioned to make this leap. They already have thousands of data points on your personal preferences for short videos. People are already not super discerning about the content they watch anyways.

You could just generate personalized videos and only drop them as bread crumbs when a user is getting bored, or slowing down on the app to lock their attention back in. Video gen isn't fast enough to be real time, but plenty fast to make a new video every few minutes.

This also neglects the fact that we were just not designed to consume so much crap. Human brain can't think of anything novel if not given enough time & space to play with an idea for long enough. Boredom and sleep are paramount for quality output.

This is true even if there were no slop. Consuming so much content like zombies makes us one. Maybe that was the plan all along - make folks brain dead enough to not even realize they're being exploited.
