has anyone read The Odyssey alongside the Epic of Gilgamesh? if we really want to get pedantic about how these people would have looked, i would consider how strikingly similar, or inspired(?), The Odyssey is to the Mesopotamian epic. (500-ish years apart btw)

Spoiler alert, Sumerians were brown. Regardless, the diversity we now see in film shouldn't be so upsetting/surprising. Art mimics life and we are not a homogenous planet.

precisely! there's a kind of homogeneity that too many people -need- to see on screen. and it's imposed on a work that existed for millennia. it's just dishonest.
