Unfortunately, I'm still very much locked into the country I'm in, and Germany doesn't make hiring its residents by remote companies very easy. (Even when you're extremely well paid, you still count as a temp worker; with the same 18 month limit, with 3 month exclusion after.)

Can you elaborate on this 18 month limit? And what about the 3 months?

Contractors in Germany are only allowed to stay at one place for 18 months straight while staying contractors. If this limit is crossed, then a full-time employee contact is automatically constructed. This is for the protection of temp workers, so that they cannot be held indefinitely in temp status

The conversion to full-time contract happens regardless of the seat of the company, and even if they have no presence in Germany otherwise. Spontaneously, you're now required to coordinate all the responsibilities of a German employer, whether you want to or not.

Non-compliance is not really an option, Germany will fine you big time for failure to comply. There is no work around, or loophole, if you try to FA, you'll end up FO, and stuck with a full-time German employee that you also cannot simply fire; you'll need good cause.
