Looked it up: Apparently Dublin Bus earns around €400m from fares per year. DART passengers spend about €80m on tickets. So ~€500m would make public transport free in the capital.

The increased usage and the drop in traffic would make health better therefore reducing costs to our health system. Apply the same logic to ebikes and increased bicycle lanes. However it would mean people wouldn't be buying cars and we can't be having that.

Theyd also save the millions they spend on the ticketing IT systems, leap cards, ticket barriers, enforcement, etc

Well that leads into UBI really and how most crime is petty (shoplifting for baby milk isn't a crime) and that if you introduced a UBI it would reduce crime, reduce mental health issues and take huge pressure off the health system. But then people would be able to choose what jobs they took and well
