It's so wild to me that when my passport expires I have to mail it back to my home country, then just not have a passport for however long it takes for them to receive it, cancel it, issue a new one, then mail it to me. Surely there has to be a better way...

In Canada you apply online within 10 months of the expiration date. They mail you a new one with instructions to destroy the old one upon receiving it. Zero downtime.

Sounds a familiar process. Yes, truly you are expected to stay within your borders for the duration. With airports around Asia all flipping rapidly to biometric e-gates the days of the need for physical passports must be numbered (hopefully)

Way back you used to have to mail it to the consulate in San Fransisco. Took *forever*although it was in the same country. Then they changed it to mailing back to the UK and it was much, much quicker.

3 Irish passports, or 3 total? UK won't even allow me to have 2. I basically have to show proof that I plan to visit a country that will cause problems if I have a stamp from a country they don't like. But I ain't about to get convicted of fraud for pretending I'd ever want to visit Israel.
