I should probably get to writing about what I’ve been building and sharing it with folks. I think it’s cool, I’ve done a couple seamless account migrations in-app, I’ve added blobstore backup to iCloud, Secure Enclave holds your root rotationKey, and we generate a recovery key split in shares.

Of course I managed to build a whole ‘nother PDS along the way. The goal at the beginning was to see how far we can push the “PDS on a phone” concept, it has instead morphed into more of a “self-sovereign identity wallet”, and entirely passwordless OAuth sessions.

I’m still also interested in pushing into a self-hosted PDS on say, your Mac that is on and connected to the Internet. Iroh tunnels to a hosted “relay” (gotta find a better term, it’s so overloaded) so you don’t have to faff with exposing your machine to the public internet.

This account is still not over on my new PDS, only because I haven’t yet made sure that I can support a did:web reasonably well. but I will get it there soon! I think that’s the only thing that stands in the way (that I’ve found).

I also plan on removing the dependence on my custom PDS impl from the identity wallet app. There is little reason you couldn’t also get many of the “self-sovereign” benefits with say, a reference PDS. Just might miss out on things like, a server holding a recovery share in escrow for you.
