maybe it’s the wrong thing to say but like, man, staff engineer was a title handed to me. but I’m already past “making enough to be comfortable”. i was as senior. i don’t desire to make work _more_ of my life. so like, telling me i’m super great in some areas, but im not “staff enough”? 1/

well, i care about that in that it might mean i stop getting paid. the things i’m already doing that my partners and team really appreciate me for, that i like doing? the stuff that is so important that you realized i was load-bearing and couldn’t lay me off? that’s what i want to do. 2/

if that doesn’t mean i’m “staff”, that’s fine. i don’t desire to bend over backwards to meet whatever my manager this year wants “staff” do be. i just wanna get shit done and be happy. 3/
