He was an inspiration and so many of us aspired to be like him.

Woah. One of the greats. Legend will live on.

RIP to the 🐐

Put the Masticore on the map. I haven’t played in 20 years and I will never forget that name or that deck. RIP to a legend.

omg. this is indeed a sad day

😞

What a wonderful person. Grew up in Germany playing Magic in the 90s/early 00s. Need I say more. 🐐❤️

Damnit.

The greatest of all time. I wish peace and solace to his family and loved ones. Rest in peace champ.

My deepest condolences to his family. I knew very little of competitive magic but he was one of the few names I knew. May he rest in peace. He was an inspiration to many.

What a legend. He will be missed, and long remembered.

Prayers 🙏 Thank you Kai for all that you stood for

Rest in peace. We will miss you.

This news is hitting me really hard. I would play the world championship deck and still have several of them. I hope we can get some of his decks as a gold border charity event so players new and old can pilot his amazing decks.

He was the greatest champion our game has ever seen.

Give me a secret lair with a rest in peace memorial for him as the secret card!

Rip He sacrificed himself to counter a spell 🥺 what a selfless thing to do.

My favorite pro player ever. May he rest in peace, and may he always be remembered as one of the greats who ever played Magic.

Kai Budde will forever be remembered as one of the greatest players in the game, if not the best. The Pro-Tour is going to feel emptier now on. I wish I could more properly convey the admiration I have for him as a player, but if you know Kai, you simply know. See you on the Sunday stage, Kai.

What a hero. He will be missed!!

Rip, probably the most iconic pro player

Oh no! He was a spectacular player! RIP

He was, he is and he will be forever be an absolute legend of the game. Not just an incredible player, but certainly one of the most influential human beings in the history Magic. Rest in peace, German Juggernaut.

RIP King. His techniques were inspiring to me.

r.i.p. to a fantastic magic player and a fantastic human being.

He was the first Magic pro I learned about, and trying his WC deck helped me get better.

Condolences to his family. I was never a competitive player, but he was still always an inspiration as what the pinnacle of Magic could be, what anyone could aspire to be--it was always thrilling watching him play. He always seemed so jarringly humble in interviews, too, which was also incredible.
