I fail to understand the reasoning for this. What am I missing? It feels fantastically wasteful to generate the software from scratch using an energy-intensive process each time. What is the benefit over a canonical implementation?

there is a canonical implementation (option 2), no? i think the benefit is just that you can specify what’s essential to the idea vs what’s incidental to an implementation (eg language choice, some wiggle room with details etc).

Then I miscommunicated the general premise in my commentary. I very much meant to point to the highlighted part of the screenshot. The “implement in programming language of your choice” part. Alongside a canonical implementation. Where programming language could be any number of design variables

Got it, thanks. I spent some time trying to steelman the idea before I responded. I probably put too much emphasis on what you said, without the broader context of the post. When I asked what am I missing, I was being earnest. In case it didn't come across like that!
