“Congress judges the republican character of each state every time it seats that state's elected representatives. This also implies that Congress can refuse to seat a state's representatives, if it thinks that state's government is not republican.” www.liberalcurrents.com/how-the-120t...

Interesting proposition. There was a time in our history that the Congress would basically tell the SCOTUS "We're not following your ruling, what're you going to do about it?" It seems an even easier lift would be to tell a state supreme court to pound sand.

“(It would not be so indispensable, perhaps, if Southern white voters would ever support black candidates.)” Just off the top of my head >>>>> Senator Tim Scott (SC) Rep. Wesley Hunt (TX-38) Meanwhile, the one majority-minority black congressional district in TN is held by a White Democrat.

Gerrymandering is not about independents, it's about conservatives. This argument is like saying the solution to fighting Trump is to just be so appealing that even Trump becomes a progressive Democrat

Let's break this down further. Cassidy IS a conservative. He's an educated doctor. The primary apparatus will select someone on the order of a lobotomized MTG. A large swath of voters are being economically squeezed in a worsening environment. They either want more of the same or change.

Huh. Gerrymandering is based on who voted in '24 and for whom they voted. The electorate is 27% registered R and 25% registered D, and 42% NPA. A little over half of the latter voted for Trump in '24. Right now he's deep underwater with them.

Refuse to seat congresspeople from states that refuse to allow Black Americans a political voice on the grounds that this is not a republican form of government as required in the constitution.

Except there is no Congress on Jan 3. The House ceases to exist as a body and reappears in whole at noon on Jan 3. The outgoing congressional majority could refuse to leave and declare itself a rump Congress with the power to not seat newly elected reps, sure, but that would be a coup d’état.
