The most important graph in the world! Another month of NASA CERES data shows that our planet keeps getting darker as global air pollution, cloud cover and ice area continue to decrease. A warmer planet radiates more heat to space, but our greenhouse gases now keep >4 W/m² in!

About +1.4 W/m² of energy accumulated globally the past four years. That's 1.4 joules per second over the 510,000,000,000,000 square meters of Earth's surface.

A theoretical question: If greenhouse gas emissions are instantly cut to net zero today, how long would it take for the Earth’s Energy imbalance to reduce to zero, and roughly at what temperature? In other words, how much warming is already in the pipeline?
