About the section `4.2 Center the orphan item in a grid`: Why not use `align-items` / `justify-content` to achieve the desired result? Combine `item-wrap: balance` and the corresponding alignment option, and we should be good to go, I'd reckon. I don't think we'd need a new syntax for that, no?

In CSS grid, it isn't possible since each grid area is reserved even if there is no an element. @michelleb.bsky.social wrote a way around that: css-irl.info/controlling-... In Flexbox, it works as you mentioned via `justify-content`. Brining this to grid will be useful.
