I have no idea what to do with this Covid revisionism. It feels like the bad kind of group therapy where you help each other ignore facts. We don't have to go *that* far back in the social media timelines to prove how fucked up it was. We were so scared we were scrubbing eggs and baking the mail.

"But Fauci--" Shut up. In those first months, we were so horny for someone smart and competent that when Fauci was asked who should play him on SNL and he said, "I don't know, Brad Pitt?" they got Brad Pitt and he ended the bit by breaking character to thank Fauci.

I think the reason the conservatives will never forgive Fauci was that he attempted to appeal to their empathy and they don't have any. Putting a visible tangible symbol on your face that you care about other people is humiliating to that tribe and they'll never stop resenting being told to do so.

The political machine that was already operating at high gear instantly took "please wear a mask, get the shot, and observe social distancing rules" took mere Nanoseconds to translate that into "an assault on their freedoms" They don't GET TOLD. They DO THE TELLING.

Yeah, someone posted an image of the most recent fascism brigade, their faces fully covered, and how this is freedom in high July but wearing a face mask in winter when you're sick is oppression.

Whoever is going to be the public health spokesperson during the next pandemic is watching this revisionist pillorising...and is probably learning the bad lessons.

I genuinely think he blames fauci for losing 2020 and thus will do everything he can to prevent that happening again and the first way to do that is to not have any pandemic protections what so ever.

It was an **astonishing** time. Rewatching this, the thing that strikes me is there's no background laughter.

This just made me cry. Fauci was a beacon of sanity in a scary crazy time and now the nut cases just want to feed him into the wood chipper. (Just read that book)

I was working as an epidemiologist when the pandemic started. I wasn't anymore after three years and the department I was in that had started with like 20 people had 3 of those original people left. We all got traumatized and overworked, and then got turned into villains.

I am in a much better place now, but the pandemic left me kind of a wreck. I hate talking on the phone, and like everyone else in our field we were doing contact tracing and working a ton of overtime. I was also doing some of my contact tracing for Navajo Nation, where so so many people died.

I didn't really need to be a hero? I chose that line of work because I wanted to help people doing a job I found interesting. But being demonized as someone with moral scrupulosity OCD ... It was harsh.

It's one of those things I will never forget. I can't speak for a small fraction of my family though, they are absolutely doing their best to. But hey, we only had about 15 funerals those years from it nearly wiping out everybody who was north of 60. Clearly it was all a lie. This is all so dumb.
