The worst part, is this was highly visible with radio. Anyone with half a minute's attention span could see the consolidation there and then go "huh bet TV is next". Yet not a single peep about radio consolidation as a problem from any major dem. It's "almost" like sr. Dems are totally OK with this.

yep! None of it is subtle. All of it is predictable. We could have chosen to pay attention to media academics at literally any point.

Well, I think, much like the security of the internet, there are some very aware individuals who highly understand the stakes, a bunch of people that have a light hold on the stakes, and a 80% group that just fail to understand and won't understand why they should care.

Oh god a literal downward spiral then without end until every TV station is propaganda and fluff pieces to keep the citizens happy by telling them Oceania is winning the war and to keep calm and carry on.

And while leadership should be in that 20% of individuals that at least get what the stakes are, even if they don't fully understand, they fall most likely into the the mid-80% where they go "oh hey, maybe that's not great" but completely fail at the understanding of repercussions.

It's a real problem with positions of power in general wherein the blinders go on and without concerted effort they'll stay on. The most blind person in the room is probably the CEO/President/Emperor what have you. And it stays that way until you get to the citizenry for the most part.
