It's hard to avoid the conclusion that Bluesky has been a net negative for US politics. They corralled everyone on the left into a little glass fishbowl where they shout at one another & everyone else ignores them. Meanwhile, all the pols & institutions stayed on X & are being dragged farther right.

they don't ignore Bluesky though there's like fifty news cycles a month obsessing over what people at bluesky are saying. replete with hand-wringing, ironically, about whether they're appropriately well rounded

Yeah, lots of shares of literal screen shots, but also some of the thought cycles that start here move into what i call 'media amplifiers', which can be one person, a company, an automated aggregator, but you notice rumination here coming out bigger later almost verbatim. Also LLM feed here.

I seems like it’s just mostly poking fun at what’s going on here. There’s even a meme on X where someone asks “What’s the mood on BlueSky?” when some big news story breaks and the X users share screenshots of BlueSky users crashing out in the replies.

I have never seen an article that even references BlueSky much less characterizes what’s going on here. I think the OP complaint is one that used to crop up on Twitter: paid writers resent when unpaid writers compete with them for followers and engagement. So they curse the entire enterprise.

By blocking those that think differently than you, you are creating an echo chamber. We should all keep an open mind and look at the big picture. We're missing a lot of information if we are in a bubble.
