They never have agency for absolutely anything in part because a huge swath of the press never fully requires they take proper ownership of dogshit policy

Exactly. Anything negative is always someone else's fault. Anything they want credit for is because of them. They're always aggrieved and always the victim. They search for narratives to cast themselves as victims no matter how absurd and when that stops working they move onto the next.
