#PlutoniumEnergy 1.9.0 is out! (and so is 1.9.1 already) This update has been in the works for a while, but it's mostly graphics and balance changes. mods.factorio.com/mod/Plutoniu... #FactorioModding

mods.factorio.comPlutonium EnergyAdds processing of Plutonium, which is created from nuclear fission of Uranium. It can be used to extract even more energy or incinerate enemies with new ammunition.

The graphics part is the new breeder reactor heat pipes sprite. I've been working on it since July. I can still spot some problems around the edges where the reactor connects to other reactors and heat pipes, but it's pretty minor. One thing I hope to also fix in the future is the shadow.

The balance changes are addressing how absolutely busted MOX fuel was. Since it only took Plutonium-238 and Uranium-238 and could be used as a /substitute/ of Plutonium-239 in the breeder reactor, it almost entirely removed the need for advanced nuclear fuel reprocessing.

MOX fuel breeder cycle was entirely positive in the Plutonium-238 and Plutonium-239 amounts, and just took more Uranium-238 to run, only requiring a little bit of Plutonium-238 to bootstrap the process. The changes aim to make the rest of the recipes viable for obtaining Plutonium-239

In the new update, Plutonium-239 can initailly be obtained *only* through Advanced nuclear fuel reprocessing. This unlocks nuclear breeding as a trigger unlock instead of taking science packs. Nuclear breeding then allows researching the technologies for uses of Plutonum-239.

MOX fuel only requires the plutonium processing technology as a prerequisite, as it does not depend on Pu-239. It has also been made to produce no waste that you would otherwise need to manage. This hopefully makes it an option as a more convenient or efficient option for nuclear in space.
