1) These powerful Americans rely heavily on Federal contracts for their wealth 2) Today's oligarchs are unlike previous generations. Gilded age barons had strong sense of legacy. They built things which became public works: libraries, hospitals, museums. Little redeeming value from this gen.

Perhaps mere cowardice is the answer—but so many super-wealthy/super-powerful should abandon long (& supposedly deeply-) held beliefs/principles to kowtow to a man they know to be profoundly corrupt/morally bankrupt? They're too worldly-wise to fall for his promises(as GOP/MAGA did.) So: kompromat?

Or maybe it's the lawsuits. And the need to stay on the good side of an autocratic president. bsky.app/profile/rbre...

What do all these corporations have in common? Nvidia Apple Google Lockheed Martin Microsoft Palantir They all donated at least $10 million to Trump’s vanity ballroom — and they all stand to benefit from his policies. Is this Trump’s most corrupt grift yet?

They are trying to slow the inevitable. They may slow it enough that it never comes, actually... But then we will all be dead, rich or poor.

🏴‍☠️ But did they kow-tow to Trump...? 🏴‍☠️ Would Trump even be there right now without THEM...? 🏴‍☠️ Trump has made the US state and its government impotent... 🏴‍☠️ ...and there are powerful individuals and private interests who like it that way... 🏴‍☠️ ...and HE is one of THEM, but not the only one...

That’s a joke right? The NYT doesn’t know *why* libertarian billionaires (libertarians now that they have all the money…) are perfectly happy letting Trump steal whatever he wants and destroy whatever he wants - so well watch trump instead of the Project 2025 infestation?

The pressure doesnt create the cowardice, it reveals it. Same pattern in Europe: years of hedging on Ukraine, then panic when the bill comes due. Institutions only hold if the people inside them do.
