When Unity started collapsing I made a quick "how do I get going in Unreal" website many folks found helpful. that website has now MOVED and is a DIFFERENT COLOUR. If you want Unreal demystification, tips and scoops, this is a place www.ughiguessiwanttomovefromunitytounreal.com

I pivoted from Unity to Unreal 5 years back, even for what was (at the time) a 2D visual novel style game. I have not regretted anything.

Would Ren'Py have been the best option in this situation? Because you said "at the time" I'm assuming the game has evolved to include non-VN elements which probably makes Ren'Py a non-starter

It was including 3D character models, so we used Unreal's strengths in that regard. Ren'Py was not enough for what we wanted to do.

Finally got around to checking this out and I'm blown away with how good (and honest) it is. I'm actually finally motivated to check out UE now and yeah, I have to admit, I've kinda crapped on Blueprints and avoided UE at all because I assumed The Pros™ only (or mostly) write C++.
