Seeing the sheer amount of "but indies will save us" in response Mike's post has me feeling real... sad. I don't think people can truly understand how the things Mike is talking about effect the indie games that do get funded or the financial realities of self-publishing.

Game industry continues to be just incredibly bleak behind the scenes. Ecosystem is in free fall. Doubt there’ll be an easy solution, or a quick one. This darkest hour has dragged out to a darkest couple of years.

I *keep* seeing people posting about being laid off from indie studios. First time I signed into LinkedIn in a while I saw a bunch of that. I was laid off from an indie studio, myself. And so forth. Wish I knew the answer other than "get another job and wait it out."

So many indies have shut down, even the dream studio is as at that felt safe. It took me 7 months to find a job that is outside of games and I have 15 years experience on my resume. It’s unreal out there.

If you do want to help out an indie, give my old team a follow and wishlist their game: bsky.app/profile/webe...
