Middle of the afternoon, I’m walking from River Park Square in Spokane. There’s a skywalk system that’s supposed to make getting around downtown easier. Except, once again, the skywalk was locked.

So I walked a couple of blocks, entered another building, and eventually found myself in a dead building at a dead end, with the doors locked. Seriously, either lock all the doors or open them.

And this isn’t just an inconvenience. It becomes a safety concern. If you’re directing people through a building and skywalk system, there needs to be a clear, accessible way out.

Trying to find my way to a ground-floor exit in the Crescent Building was surprisingly challenging. Downtown infrastructure should be accessible, predictable, and safe. Locked doors and dead ends shouldn’t be part of the experience.
