Like others I played the Arc Raiders playtest, enjoyed it and was looking forward to the game only to discover they are using AI voices. Their reasoning was that they can "go from ideation to implemented voice work in hours not months" Thing is, that's not an AI issue, that's a pipeline problem...

If you, as a studio decide you're going to use human voices, you can easily create a fast, responsive pipeline. There are 1000s of voice actors, ready and available with broadcast quality home studios that can get you audio, fast. This is a leadership problem, not a logistical one.

You can create a pipeline where you have a roster of actors "on-call" who can turn round audio within 4 hours, this is not a difficult thing to achieve. AI is a choice and a different one could easily have been made that would keep it collaborative, ethical and in the spirit of creating art.

Most voice actors have home recording options these days. I built my home booth precisely so I could step in at a moment’s notice. No programming, instant feedback and direction.

It's not even "these days", actors with home studios have been around for decades. This is a very conscious choice to use AI instead or perhaps they literally don't have someone on the team who has the knowledge to guide them better which is also possible!
