This is awkward... Indie makers, what do you do when somebody launches a product with the same name as yours? Someone launched "Bluesky Scheduler" on Product Hunt today, but I've got blueskyscheduler.com 😬 I sent them a DM the other day, but no response... How best to handle this? #buildinpublic

In this case, you have a big advantage coz of the domain. If it was me, I would launch with same name + tagline that tells about value add. Overtime, if you get seo right, you will have the upperhand.

I don’t think you should overthink it. It’s a free market and competitors will come. It is also likely this will be the first of many competitors in this space.

Not worried about the competition - one of my favourite things about Bluesky is that anyone can build on top of it :) More conscious of folks getting confused about two products with the same name. Anyway, I agree re: overthinking, it's probably not worth focusing on right now

Last thought on this. This might be a good chance to brand it as something more memorable. With so many tools coming out and using descriptive names, it’s hard to keep track (honestly can’t remember them). Then use this name and redirect. 😈

I just reread this @jacklewin.com If they took your name or have an overly similar name that is unique (not descriptive), you might have a case. I dealt with trademarks before. Not a lawyer, but your name is descriptive here. You could persuade them to change it on courtesy grounds.
