I know it's gauche to mention it, but JFC, the bsky web UI is shockingly slow. 2MB of JS to render a timeline, not a PWA, larded up with workarounds for Safari bugs which make scrolling everywhere else worse...just...*sigh*. Thankfully, @mary.my.id's excellent Skeetdeck exists: skeetdeck.pages.dev

Bsky highlights the contradiction at the heart of React's bezzle: in order to support RN (supporting app store gatekeepers), it creates a model that makes the (open, interoperable, free) web site shite to use...pushing people to apps. This is not pro-open-web.

bsky.app/profile/jpsc... Yep, it's kinda sad. I hope they can improve when they have the capacity
Fonts are blocking the render and they take 3x 500kb, also the main 2 js bundle are ~2mb and takes ~4.8sec just for the server response (empty cache)
"the capacity"? Nolan Lawson singlehandedly built Pinafore for Mastodon. @mary.my.id singlehandedly built Skeetdeck. It's not about resources, it's about priorities.
This is what failure to web good looks like. I'm sure you could make a better React solution, but this is just an embarrassment compared to Pinafore or Elk...and for what? To prop up app stores? www.webpagetest.org/video/compar...
