ICE has been funded through OBB and it will operate even in a shutdown. At this point, only funding can be reduced. The DHS funding bill does not impact ICEs ability to operate bsky.app/profile/murr...

Senator Patty Murray@murray.senate.gov

ICE must be reined in, and unfortunately, neither a CR nor a shutdown would do anything to restrain it, because, thanks to Republicans, ICE is now sitting on a massive slush fund it can tap whether or not we pass a funding bill. My full statement on the DHS funding bill.

So quick to anger I agree with you. I was adding on facts for context in addition with that post. I want people to know that regardless of this dhs funding bill, ice will still be operating. Through the bill theyre voting on now, they can reduce funding for specific things and add reforms

Anger? I long ago stopped getting angry at tankies of all stripes. I just laugh now. So adding reforms and restrictions on how ICE can operate in a DHS-funding bill, wouldn't change how ICE operates? Go with that, I guess 🤣

IIRC the Big Ugly Bill was something that “couldn’t happen.” It walked back agreements and appropriations that had been agreed upon by both parties and we “never” walk those back. It also took money from FEMA which “couldnt happen.” So I don’t believe that there’s no way to unfund it.

Some talking points. ICE: forcibly enters homes w/o a warrant interrogate people bc of ethnicity/accents breaks windows/drag occupants from cars uses force on people who were already restrained meet protesters with force deploy chem irritants at close range continue to operate with anonymity

They are tearing down the CONSTITUTION before our very eyes. They are NOT defending us, the people. They are defending the tyrant's army. Blood is on our streets & children are left without their parents. Call it like it is: a crime scene. If the Senate won't defund them what will we do?

Ezra, after reading ths post and replies from @muellershewrote.com I'm confused about what would be the most effective thing to do on the funding bill. bsky.app/profile/muel...

FYI: Dems in the senate can't defund ICE. ICE is funded by the Big Ugly Bill. Shutting down DHS on this vote wouldn't touch ICE, but it would shut down FEMA, TSA, Coast Guard, etc. Shutting down ICE requires taking back Congress in the midterms. Dismantling DHS requires the White House in 2028.

Don't care, if this administration isn't going to stop it, things will get much worse. Not aggressively opposing him is appeasement, and we know giving him anything DOES NOT WORK. He's bottomless.
