Psychonauts and Costume Quest maker Double Fine has launched its new game development Kickstarter project after cutting ties with Xbox, and says it'll make Brütal Legend 2 if it raises an impossible-sounding $100 million. https://bit.ly/4gK2wXK

I'm so torn. Brutal Legend is one of only 3 RTSes I ever had fun with, but trying to make a sequel without the Kill Master and Guardian of Metal? That just feels wrong.

I like the rts as well but only after I understood the weird design choice of hiding character progression after finding those damn statues, after doing that I could beat the glam metal squad and proceed to finish the game

Oh a 3D adventure game with RPG mechanics would've been fire I feel I could honestly say "You know how the game is for the first few minutes, before you encounter the open world or RTS stuff? Just make it like that the whole way through" and it would be an all timer

It doesn't help that the devs wants to focus on the RTS and EA handled the advertising... and entirely failed to mention the online RTS aspects that the devs wanted to be the main feature

A Brutal Legend 2? The first one left on a pretty intriguing high note. It would be VERY interesting to see where they would take the story. Just wish them luck on getting that high level of coin. Best of luck as always to the Double Fine folks on their end. *nods*

The stretch goal is over 250x the actual funding goal. It's obviously tongue-in-cheek - so of course IGN tweets it out like it's "news".

Absolute fantasy. No way they raise that much money after doing absolutely nothing for 7 years with a free pass to do whatever they want with MS money. A good studio, but they have always been bad at hitting milestones or scoping designs to a budget.

Anyone that had an Xbox knew they came out, they were on gamepass land both games had home screen ads. Also both games were beyond mid and served no audience. I played both of them, and anyone else who did,can see why MS dropped them. This kickstarter is a grift and it’s dishonest.
