I have spent a collective 600+ hours 100%ing it on PC and PS4, and I love that game, but boy howdy does it miss a lot of marks. It really tells a story that didn't need to be told to tie a debatable loose end that no one thought twice about, and it lacked so much of that "Metal Gear" flair.

Reminder that he also wanted to make a make that forces you to pay real money to continue playing if your character dies. I deeply respect Kojima for experimenting with video games as a form of art to create something new, but sometimes he just doesn't have the brightest ideas.

I don't remember all the details and he tried multiple ideas. One of them I believe was an mmo with zombies. If you die you become a zombie (with no control over it) and if someone kills your zombie you can play again. (Meaning if you have no friend, you may pay to create a second account...)

It would be interesting if instead of relinquishing control, it's just a shift in gameplay and objectives. I'd love to see an MMO like that that's just an everlasting conflict between zombies and humans

i think it would fit great depending on the game. for something story based, it would be helpful to get you to understand where you're at in the lore, and to figure out where to go/what to do next.

Sorry, Hideo. That's called "every game I've ever put down for two months and tried to continue, only to give up and hit 'start new game' after about 20 minutes." It has been out in multiple forms since the SNES.

I have an ongoing theory he’s just been saying ever more outlandish shit to find out when someone will tell him to stop. He was really surprised when the piss grenades made it into Death Stranding unedited.

I know I'm gonna get hate for this but I swear every time I see Kojima talk about gameplay ideas and concepts I say out loud to myself "that sounds like a really bad idea", lol. I just never understood why people think he's such a visionary.

Kojima is one of the most glazed creatives to ever exist and gets near-universal acclaim any time he does anything; he doesn't need defenders making personal attacks on anyone who mildly criticizes his dumb ideas

Kojima is like one of those weird kool-aid mouth stain kids at the arcade who would say shit like "what if when we were playing and got hit our REAL BLOOD got shot onto the SCREEN?!" and then you had to just say "I dunno man" and hope he wandered off.

this doesn't sound too pleasant to me, but i think kojima should give it a shot anyways. not because I think it'll be particularly fun, but game development is all about exploration and frankly i don't wanna live in a world where we don't explore the occasional silly idea

also i want to elaborate, i do not think i would have fun with this game. despite that, i still want it to exist because: 1) not every game has to cater to my tastes 2) the kind of story you would have to craft to justify this mechanic has the potential to be really really cool

i think people are a bit too hasty to dismiss games just because they don't appeal to them specifically. truth is, not everything has to be made for you to be worthy of existing. things don't even have to be *good* to be worthy of existing lol

it’s not a skill, it doesn’t need to have upside, I probably wouldn’t play this at all. but I think new artistic concepts that completely ignore the conventions of the medium are always cool. we need people like Kojima whether I like his games or not

that honestly sounds like a terrible idea. If I spend too much time away from a game, I forget the mechanics anyway. Relearning the skill sounds like grinding. What if the skill is needed and the game soft locks you? It would be another incentive to restart from the beginning.
