Now that the president is encouraging states to cancel their primary elections and redraw congressional district maps, can we agree that a constitutional crisis is now upon us?

Nothing pisses me off more than hearing MSM saying, "We're could be heading to a Constitutional crisis," over the past 10 years, when we crossed that bridge during the first term when they failed to impeach the first time.

Hopefully the Louisiana « executive order » will be nullified. His « state of emergency » is clearly just to try to rig the elections. That should be a completely unacceptable reason to halt an election in progress.

Is now the time Schumer (obviously it is R’s stopping all legislation but with his years in office he must have some friends in the R side) will stand with citizens to fight back. He has repeatedly said the public needs to get angrier & then he will defend the will of the people.

No offence, but it sure seems like the average American is completely oblivious to almost everything going on in the US. If they weren't, they would've put a stop to this months ago. Happy our leadership here in Canada is attempting to uncouple from the US...as difficult as that is.

Do you wonder why it is that congress and etc are always, ALWAYS 10 steps behind MAGA and the trump regime. I don't feel it's by accident, Yea, they holler, kick and scream, right on their way to the bank.

How is this possible?👇 Redrawing needed to happen a long time ago! Massachusetts (9 Democrats, 0 GOP)Rhode Island (2 Democrats, 0 GOP)Vermont (1 Democrat, 0 GOP)Hawaii (2 Democrats, 0 GOP)Connecticut (5 Democrats, 0 GOP)Delaware (1 Democrat, 0 GOP)New Mexico (3 Democrats, 0 GOP)

That is not within the purview of a Constitutional crisis, which woulld occur if one branch asserted an authority that another branch says it doesn't have, and the first branch refused to back down. It is, however, a crisis of democracy.

Indiana bucked Trump’s mandate. I wonder how long it will take before they lose their spines. Mind you—it’s not a matter of IF they cave. It’s a matter of WHEN they cave. Yarvin’s myth of a benevolent leader is worth about as much as birdcage liner. Even the founders knew this. Originalism my azzz

Hello? Anyone? Stop saying the law stops this and they won't do that. They actively are saying fuck off to the constitution, laws and the citizens of the United States of America and the world. My own private conspiracy has come true.

I have never found much to celebrate about our heavily gerrymandered GOP supermajority in Indiana. But, their refusal thus far to buckle to Trump’s demands for (further) redistricting give me some hope. We go to the polls today. #Vote

US government approval rating has been in a downward trajectory since 2000. Baring the boost of patriotism in the 1-2 years following 9-11, the peak of approval hasn't even managed to hit 60% in, um, ever. Lol. I think most people have always been aware, to a degree, that the US gov is corrupt. 😖

I've felt the constitutional crisis began Jan 20 2017, he has violated the Constitution every single day he's been in office (emoluments clause). Frequently others also.

We’ve been in a Constitutional crisis for some time now but our government’s system of checks and balances has completely failed. They’re violating the Constitution with impunity because they know they won’t be held accountable. Each act has been a test to see how far they can go.

We are voters. That's our power. They are government officials. They ARE the power. What exactly are we supposed to do about it WHICH WE ARE NOT DOING ALREADY? 8M #NoKings was nothing? The social media whine about how "WE" are not doing something about it is getting old and stupid at this point.

Not until the CBS Evening News, the New York Times, WaPo, CNN, NBC Nightly News and ABC World News Tonight officially call it a "constitutional crisis" ... in other words, yes.

No, no, no... we're all still delusional and can't see the sponsored takedown, the inside overthrow of our government and judiciary system. No, nothing to see here, move along...

No no we have to start and concerned then get to bothered we can’t admit crisis until ten years after our death. Any measure of response beyond this is “Derangement Syndrome” and meltdown according to the expert from Maine on proportional reasonable responses.

If you want to learn about looming Constitutional crises, read Thomas B. Edsall's horrifying piece in the 05/05/2026 NY Times about the President's emergency powers. Canceling elections. Nullifying elections post-factum. Mass jailing. Assaults on protesters. Carte blanche.

Not when SCOTUS ruled that he could not be punished for his obvious crimes - that as president and a former president, he was immune from any and all accountability? Not then? In July 2024?

Demand lawmakers fight for our democracy ... Home of the free & the brave or the cowardly & self-serving? DEMAND ur lawmakers stop his ballroom, he lacks authority & now wants US to pay for it, defund ICE terrorists, confiscate their death camps I would see those $$ go to SNAP, Health Ins., PBS

We've been in a Constitutional crisis since day 1 of this term. He wasn't eligible to run. He shouldn't have been on the ballot. Everything he's done is illegal because he isn't supposed to be in this position. Our Constitution forbade it. We allowed it anyway.

I don’t believe there’s a new crisis “upon us”, certainly not one that warrants cancellation of primaries. The current crisis the country is in started day 1 of trump’s second term.

IMHO, the time to act was before the crisis ... when all the alerts were warning the crisis was imminent. At this point, a different solution will be needed.

We have had a constitutional crisis since Trump took office in 2016 and probably even before that. When we have people in power who are willing to ignore laws when convenient and abdicate their role when convenient that is a problem. Everyone needs to vote!!

It hasn’t let up since the inauguration, it’s getting worse, and in the next two years we could see the final fabric of our society come apart 🫣 “Civilised life is like a spider’s web, easy to destroy, but hard to construct, then what I write is perhaps a caution.” Philosopher John Gray

Don't look at me. Y'all are the ones who keep acting like these traitors are still our government and are still listening to us.

Wouldn’t it be great if we could get ALL of our people to vote in the redrawn districts so we can win in them anyway? Like Arizona’s 7th district. They redrew it in hope of turning it red and it’s still reliably blue.

Ya started well before 2000 honestly. Reagan was the start. Bush continued it. Trump escalated it to new levels. Now we have a full on fascist government and the gerrymandering battle is basically the start of Civil War.

Unfortunately, these people would not have been able to destroy the country, not in 1980, not in 2000, not now, if the systems put in place to prevent it from happening had not either failed or been outright sabbatoged. (Not saying you don't know this. Just making a general statement.)

The crisis started in the 80s. The GOP, the Koch brothers, the Heritage Foundation et al started in on this plan then. Putin joined in at some point, maybe the 80s also. It's been a slow roll, but they (we) reached the tipping point and they are drooling over the final execution of their plan.

How could any right-minded American go along with this charade? Very reminiscent of the run up to 2020. He's so nakedely corrupt with a predator's sense of entitlement and high on state violence. I have severe misgivings.

Why Racism is Not a Crime in the USA? Racism is a criminal offense in several countries, with Brazil having one of the strictest,non-bailable anti-racism laws (Law No. 7.716/1989).Australia, Canada,Sweden, and various EU members, have laws criminalizing hate speech, racial discrimination, and harassment.

"Democratic Leadership is willing to work with REAL Republicans, who want to work together to lower prices for the hardworking American family. If they have concerns over elections, they should sit down and negotiate with us. Is that so hard?" Jeffries and Schumer.

The fact that Trump thinks that everybody votes along party lines is laughable. Republicans are going to lose in 2026 because people are fed up. Republicans, Democrats, Independents are all fed up. Sure, many will still vote party lines but not enough to save his ass.

Doesn’t even matter He cheated (with Musk as the last $250 million push) No one knew how racist, misogynistic and bigoted this country could be (Well, at least, I didn’t)

This will not go unnoticed by the citizens of those states. They will be able to see what crap their elected officials are trying to pull, and with coordination and determination qualified candidates will be able to garner the votes necessary to send those aholes packing.

Yes. They are all complicit. Trump needs to be put into his own mental hospital He will kill more people He will have Rubio justify the hypocrisy He will go for every loophole He will NOT admit he is wrong He will NOT accept criticism We’ve been in an authoritarian dictatorship for 1.5 years

In my opinion we are so beyond that. People have been asleep at the wheel in this country for so long, what they are planning is very dark and I suspect voting will not get us out of it.

Not to add to your depression, but remember that SCOTUS has held that he literally "can't" be punished for his crimes. He is immune from any and all accountability and is allowed to commit crimes with utter impunity.

With this SCOTUS, what will qualify as a crime within the scope of his duties as president is going to be really, really broad. As in, pretty much anything he does while president will be interpreted as part of the job. Including if he shoots someone on 5th Avenue.
