A question for my #iOS and #Android followers: Those of you who have apps using hardware features like Camera, Bluetooth, NFC or similar; are you writing integration tests for these features that you run automatically on your CI pipelines? If so, what's your setup for this?

No, relying on abstraction in instrumental tests. I have a feeling that the camera image can be faked with a photo (like the emulator does).

Yes, but I want an automated test that includes the latency we get from real hardware.

I am sure it is possible to solve. Each feature requires a different solution. Camera needs to have the device mounted and the lights to be consistent. NFC requires the device to move, so you need some kind of robot arm. Bluetooth is probably the easiest.

Sounds like a special firebase lab idea. Maybe it can fly as a business.

Not sure. Maybe for the camera (submit a picture and have the phone face a display showing it), but NFC and Bluetooth needs special hardware that you can't really outsource.

Yesterday, at coffee, someone mentioned a robotic hand to pass captcha. Here could be some sliding mechanism and programmable NFC below it

Some years ago we did this with a simple sliding mechanism built with Lego. :) The card was placed below and the phone was dragged over it. Worked really well.
