having watched mark darrah's post-mortem on anthem (strong recommend to anyone who wants a window into game dev process regardless of if you care about anthem) its crazy they never put out anthem next. the inside of corporations is inscrutable and maddening beyond even the worst of what we assume

the problems of that game were obvious to everyone on the ground working on it the entire time and as soon as those people were empowered to finally make real decisions on an actual existing game it became tangible and no longer a fantasy of fifa money but bioware so ea dropped them like a rock

I'm currently operating on the assumption that the dipshits who run EA now checked if BioWare made a profit last year and the answer was 'no' because they didn't release a game last year while working on a big one and they immediately killed them

its tragic that between ME3 multiplayer, to andromeda to anthem bioware managed to become good at action game feel, something that was basically an alien concept in earlier games. that is genuinely a miracle to pull off and it was all mismanaged to nothing

It would be cool if megapublishers realized they need modestly (sometimes highly!) successful critically acclaimed products to deflect attention and ire away from the fact that every Madden/FIFA infinite money printer is worse than last year‘s so gamers don’t want to kill them all the time

Just the jump from Mass Effect to Mass Effect 2 was already huge in action game feel and I'm actually upset that outside of Mass Effect 2, 3 and Anthem there aren't any games that match that. I'm hoping Exodus and Expanse can scratch that itch.
