More characters when faced with the Gnostic horror that their gods are insane machines and their entire world is a prison should react with “yeah but my brother-in-law is a fucking loser, have you met this chucklefuck?”

XIII’s commitment to focusing on characterising the party is impressive. But it is very funny how anyone who’s not one of the six in that game is aggressively not a character. Like you go into XIII-2 and suddenly the supporting cast feel like rounded people.

I wish there was more to Jihl because to me Sazh and Vanille’s scene at Nautilus is kinda where XIII’s peaks (game’s good, mind, just that that’s the best bit imo). Would have loved them to go more Tales of the Abyss and build some more personal beef between party members and the Sanctum’s elite.

lightning's inciting incident being that crashes out because her sister is marrying her podcaster boyfriend is why she's the best. my sister got married last year and I'm still trying to find my Hope.

i love the moment during that same chapter where lightning debates killing the fal’cie in charge of food production and hope is like “yeah, but then everyone we’ve ever met would die of starvation” and she’s like “yeah they’d probably be mad at me 🫣”

To be fair, Lightning ALSO hated Snow's burnout ass since he convinced her sister to marry him. She gave Hope the knife, but SHE didn't use it🤫 Also if you take into account everyone's ages then it's a goddamn miracle Lightning didn't kill Snow herself in the intro.

you should play 13-2 it goes so much further with lightning’s character i think it’s one of the best ff games in terms of just how messy it allows its cast to be and i really miss that energy
