Partial counterpoint: new hardware is always unobtainable for a large number of children around the world, due to price. What do they play!? Everything they possibly can on every used console, simple mobile device, anything. Not great for new huge games, but you could sooner eradicate cockroaches.

If video game hardware becomes unobtainable for current children, there is no chance of this generation imprinting on it like the last two generations of children have. They will not grow into the adults we have now; the ones spending money on games. Games will end as we know them.

It seems like following your logic to its conclusion, the long term impact of the AIpocalypse on console gaming will be that five randomly selected countries will soon have an entire generation of kids exclusively playing games on the Sega Master System

Substitute whatever hardware surplus exists that's better than a raspberry pi but uses RAM that's no use for data centers at all. I mean heck, maybe there is a market of kinds in this. I spent three hours yesterday watching five kids play games continuously on a $150 used Nex Playground, ao

No I predict it will be, due to geopolitical forces yet to reveal themselves, the Sega Master System specifically
