Leftists are becoming increasingly agitated that the public is reaching the conclusion "Republicans are bad, let's elect Democrats" instead of what they expected, "Capitalism is bad, let's have a revolution."

Yeah, they seem to think "if things get bad enough, they'll yearn for socialism/communism"; but when put in survival mode, people will just want a return to normalcy. Make the pain stop first before getting ambitious. (And that's assuming S/C are worth getting ambitious for: which is not a given.)

A Roman example here is that Octavian turned his position into being the first Emperor because everyone was exhausted. The fact that Octavian brought a return to normalcy (by killing everyone else with any authority, mostly) let him dismantle the Roman *democracy*.

I would never think to “both sides” anything these days. The fact is you can’t take that stance these days without being a bit of an asshole. That said I think there are people on the left and right that learned all their history from Call of Duty and totally think they could win a civil war…
