I am SO sick of this, like how is this acceptable? Why are tax funded shelters no longer taking cats from the public? Especially cats that were clearly pets that have been DUMPED. House cats are not wild, feral cats are still domestic animals, none of this is sustainable and it is CRUEL to both the

animals being left on the streets and to the people who find them who end up spending weeks begging every rescue in a six hour radius for SOME sort of help. Did you know most private rescues won’t even take animals from the public? They pull from shelters because it’s safer, legally and physically.

One rescuer took in a dog from someone that ended up belonging to a man that went to prison and when he got out he broke into her house while her disabled adult son was home alone and stole the dog back. Like, there’s a reason most rescues want to be able to work directly with the shelter!

And clearly the vast majority of the public still has no idea what’s been going on with this stuff unless their yard has been flooded with cats (or even stray dogs, like down in Kern County) because every time someone is advised to try taking a cat to the shelter someone chimes in to be like “Don’t

do that they’ll just kill them!!!” Like, girl, they ain’t taking anything and haven’t in years, what are you even talking about.

I had to listen to a rescuer tell officers at a national park to put a litter of kittens back INTO THE PARK because there’s nowhere for them to go and they’re supposed to go back to where they were found and no they weren’t offered TNR (because our county doesn’t have any TNR access right now-

aside from spending $300 a cat at a regular veterinarian!) and somehow I’M the extremist for thinking that is unacceptable and unfair to the cats and our poorly protected wildlife AND the park rangers? We can do better than this.
