I hate the entire consumer-facing "A.i." industry so much. Just unrelenting, massive social damage and extraction. A deeply repugnant, immoral, anti-human business.

I’m especially frustrated by the piece uncritically repeating Pangram’s “no false positives” claim when I know writer friends who have run their own work through & had it flag their 100% human-written sentences as machine-generated. We must doubt any company’s claim about its product having 0 fails.

Pangram is a classifier, trained to classify writing as either human or LLM. A large part of the human dataset is pre-ChatGPT Wikipedia articles. But if you're trying to train a classifier, post-2022 writing can't be used as models of "human" writing, because it might be "contaminated" with AI.
