RALLY: Join the coalition opposing the Brooklyn Democratic Party Chair’s anti-democratic power grab Monday at 3pm at BK Borough Hall. Tell the Party Chair to respect the vote! partiful.com/e/UzWY6FPbvD...

Democrats in Brooklyn just elected enough new district leaders to replace Brooklyn Democratic Party chair Bichotte-Hermelyn. But Bichotte-Hermelyn is now pushing a plan to pack the committee that elects the chair, which would let her retain power. These protestors aren't happy about that!

Public advocate @jumaane.bsky.social spoke powerfully, taking on Bichotte-Hermelyn's claim that she's packing the committee in the name of "diversity." He talked about diversity as the FLOOR. On top of that we have to have democratic procedures and policies. Not this kind of power grab.

NYS assembly member @joannesimonbk52.bsky.social (my assembly member!) made the shocking point that if she succeeds in packing the committee, Bichotte-Hermelyn will presumably have an 85% majority. Unacceptable for a supposedly democratic (and Democratic) organization.

Shaquana Boykin, district leader for AD57, laughed a bit as she started to speak -- she essentially said she had to COLLECT herself for a moment before speaking because she was so mad at this power grab.

I appreciate this sentiment. If you're a Democrat in Brooklyn and you agree, call your local electeds and tell them to speak out against Bichotte-Hermelyn's power grab. You can find your electeds at reps.fyi
