Just gonna say there are plenty of insurgent, anti-establishment candidates WITHOUT Nazi tattoos that the New Republic could have featured instead of Platner. You could ABSOLUTELY make the point that Ds are mad at the centrist leaders of the party WITHOUT helping rehabilitate this particular guy.

You know the popular “Nazi bar” Tweet that makes the rounds frequently on Bluesky? About the bartender that says if you don’t kick Nazis out right away, they can take over your whole bar? Platner is a living example of that Tweet, and you gotta kick him out now, before the whole party gets infested.

That New Republic article also minimizes Platner's past by saying "he did write some bad stuff about Black people and women on the internet a few years ago." Platner's specific words are pretty terrible and the NR should have included them, imo. themainemonitor.org/platner-redd...

Platner's explanation: 'In a statement made to Politico, Platner said he was “f—king around on the internet at a time when I felt lost and very disillusioned with our government who sent me overseas to watch my friends die.”'

That explanation miiight apply to Platner's histrionic anti-fascist posts like “an armed working class is a requirement for economic justice.” But being "disillusioned with our government" doesn't explain why he posted racist and rape-minimizing bullshit.
