"Rolling Extreme" (1999, Gaelco) is playable in MAME but buggy, with graphical glitches and...no sound. Fixed it! This video is perhaps the first time the game has been heard outside an arcade. "This is not a TV show—it's real! Have you been good? Get to the bottom first!" 1/3

2/3 The audio in this game turned out to be ADPCM, and it has dynamic music! Songs are split into chunks that can loop. The song progresses if you're doing well, and if you're not it loops at a "boring" bit. With suitably weird/cheesy lyrics, ofc. "A handful of daredevils..."

3/3 I also mapped out all the missing GPU properties, which adds missing translucency (windows), blending (shadows, etc). "On your back! 70 miles an hour!" And I added a 2× mode in my build for high resolution rendering. Pretty pretty cool! "Can this be real!?" in MAME soon

I'm playing Rolling Extreme here on my M4 MacBook Pro with a Switch Pro Controller: • tilt controls for turning • triggers for brakes • dpad Left and button A for side smash left/right 😎
