The macOS app for my Genki ShadowCast HDMI capture dongle was strangely laggy. And I knew it's as simple as AVCaptureVideoPreviewLayer to get a feed of a connected video device...so I made my own capture viewer app, with recording, shaders, OSD, etc.

I've been using Quick Camera, which is "fine," but I bet this is a ton better.

One of those atrocious AliExpress ezcap gadgets. I'm open to trying something nicer - these days I'm usually recording with OBS

Hadn’t heard of that one, there’s definitely some overlap. Mine a bit more fleshed out (detect best capture res, shaders, record, freeze frame, copy screen to clipboard) which is surprising because it only took a day. Also judging by Wii pointer movement: mine feels less laggy (could be placebo)
