IT departments are too cautious to give Elixir a serious look — they won't stray from the safe, "risk-free" options.

Yeah, that's a real thing -- and not just in IT. I've tried positioning from the Erlang side (been running forever), but it can be a tough hill to climb if people just prefer Java (or something else) and mask it as "less risky."
